Fluffy Frosted Eggnog Cookies (vegan)

I have only ever spent one Christmas away from home. It was in the midst of my 9-month backpacking adventure and while I was lucky enough to be among old family friends in a beautiful little crescent of northern Norway, it just wasn’t quite the same. I had a lovely time in their Scandinavian cabin-like home, surrounded by dramatic icy waters and snow-laden mountains, lighting candles in the long dark hours and making the most of the 3-4 hours of sunlight.

Winter Playlist + How The Music Moves Me / An Improv Video

I go through phases where besides the time spent teaching and dancing in the studio, I barely listen to music. I enjoy the inner silence and the outer background noise of cars and frequent yelling matches outside in the streets (although I can never tell if it is happy enthusiastic cries or a fight- both are entirely plausible in Tangier). I don’t feel the need to fill space with anything but this unique sort of white noise and my own thoughts swimming among it.

However, there is something about winter- the month of December especially- that starts to give me this pressing need for a daily soundtrack.

Last weekend I had a Thanksgiving meal that was quite outside of the box of a traditional American celebration. Every year since I have lived abroad has been a completely different experience of the holiday, and this time was among my favorites. M and I invited his family over for a late Sunday lunch, which meant I had the luxury of a whole weekend to prep and complete a couple hectic visits to the market, make pie crusts on Saturday and keep Sunday morning fairly stress-free as far as preparing large feasts for large groups of people go.
