What is the oldest thing in the world?
Creature of Habit, choreographed and performed by Ruby Josephine Smith and with artistic direction by Natalia Fernandes, was originally created as a part of the project The Oldest Thing in the World, conceptualized by Fernandes. Each solo in the project aims to answer the question- “what is the oldest thing in the world to you?”
Smith’s solo answers this question in the form of a ritual. Creature of Habit, at it’s seed of conception began by exploring the ways in which we experience the earth, it’s cycles and spirituality. The product is an evolutionary solo that represents the structure of a ritual, the repetition of tradition, and the inevitable chaos of life. It is a bizarre celebration of our connection to our communal history and the earth on which we walk.
